Canopic Jars

Canopic Jars

Description

Gold Colour Egyptian Canopic Jar

Used in the mummification process, Canopic jars were for storing the mummified body parts. The body parts were removed and cleaned and then placed into these four special jars.

Jar 1: male headed god Imsety on the lid guarded the liver
Jar 2: the Jackal headed god Duamutef guarded the stomach
Jar 3: the falcon headed god Qebehsenuef was for the intestines
Jar 4: the baboon headed god Hapy guarded the lungs.

The heart was believed to be an important part of the journey and ceremony that took place in the afterlife and remained in the body.

Each jar is made from resin and is priced individually. The jars can be opened by removing the head-lid.
