ContactHead of Department Prof. Emma Aston: e.m.m.aston@reading.ac.uk More InformationAbout the speaker: Dr Jane Masséglia is Associate Professor of Ancient History at the University of Leicester. She studied Classics, then Classical Archaeology at Oxford, with a PGCE in Classics and several happy years' teaching in schools sandwiched between her undergraduate and postgraduate studies. She began her academic career as a researcher on two major projects: the ERC-funded Greek Emotions Project under Prof. Angelos Chaniotis, and then the AHRC-funded Ashmolean Latin Inscriptions Project under Prof. Alison Cooley. At Leicester since 2016, she combines her love of both the Greek East and the Roman West as part of the team engaged in the study and publication of the Roman villa at Ketton, with particular focus on the Trojan War mosaic discovered there. Publications: Janie's publications use a combination of texts and objects, to illuminate the lives of ordinary people in antiquity, from her first book Body Language in Hellenistic Art and Society (OUP, 2015) to her most recent article 'Women of a Certain Age: The Form and Function of Old Female Officiants in Greek Ritual Practice' (De Gruyter, 2025). |
